About The Branding Iron

The Branding Iron has been in existence since 1952, and has been the subject of two articles by Sunset Magazine. It is known for its fresh fish, lamb, chicken, and beef entrees, particularly its savory prime rib. The Gazpacho, a cold Spanish soup, is made fresh daily, and is very popular. Their toasted Parmesan Bread, using sourdough rolls from a Basque Bakery in nearby Fresno, is also a specialty of the house.

The Branding Iron celebrates California's ranching history with its decor and gets its name from the approximately 200 cattle brands that are displayed throughout the dining area. Owned by Kara and Greg Parle, the Branding Iron first opened its doors in 1952 and its 50-year-old neon sign of a cowboy branding a calf has been designated a historical landmark by the city of Merced.

This "Merced Tradition" also features a cocktail lounge and banquet facilities.

MercedOne of the most popular, more elegant places in town, based on the old Merced farmer's, cattle ranchers and their brands. An rich wood style, white tablecloths, local cattle brands encompass the wall tops. Includes a garden courtyard, unfortunately, right next to the train tracks. Since we are a small town, most people are not bothered by this, especially if you smoke. The service is always impeccable.
Our favorites: salmon, scallone, scallone, and scallone, prime rib, and their Bleu Cheese is to die for!
